EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS

The workshops of the Museo Casa di Dante allow children to approach the figure of Dante and medieval history in a creative and fun way. All the activites, with the exception of the laboratories of comics, cost 5€ per person, plus 2€ for the reduced museum ticket.

Dante and The Middle Ages

Who is it for: students from 11 to 14 yrs

Dante and the Middle Ages is a team game during which the participants will answer to simple questions about Dante’s life, Florence at the time of Dante, Dante’s Hous Museum and the Divine Comedy, through a path structured along the line of the game “Snakes and Ledders”.
The winning team will get a nice prize.


The Divine Quiz

Who is it for: students from 11 to 18 yrs

A special journey through the circles of Hell, Purgatory and Paradise, punctuated by very particular characters! Participants will be divided in two groups: Each will elect its captain, who will answer to questions in order to advance in the game… Waiting for the final trial that the captains can not avoid, worth the ire of the famous father of Divine Comedy.



Divine Comedy Puzzle

Who is it for: students from 6 to 13 yrs

In this workshop, the group of students will be divided into three subgroups: Each team will have a different fragmented image of Divine Comedy. The teams have to recompose the puzzle in a pre-fixed time. The winning team will get a nice prize.


Guild of Physicians and Apothecaries

Who is it for: students from 6 to 13 yrs

The activity is divided in two parts: the theoretical one is a brief explanation about magic and medicine in 1300 and today’s herbal science; the second part is about the Divine Comedy and the of plants and flowers mentioned, with their symbolic meanings.



Astrology and Numerology in the Divine Comedy

An immersion in symbolism of astrology and numerology inside the Divine Comedy by traces that Dante left us. The activity is divided in two parts: the theoretical one is a brief explanation about astrology in 1300; the second part is about discovering this kind of symbolism in the Divine Comedy.

An overview of idioms and proverbs most typical for the Tuscan sense of humor; step by step, through the history of Italian most funny figures of speech. Addressed to about anyone, but especially to youngs, to let them discover a particular aspect of Florence, its history and crafts.



Heraldry

In this workshop student will understand the meaning of heraldry, deepen its symbology studying the coats of arms of most important Florentine families, and develop fantasy and reflective and critical abilities.
The activity is divided in two parts: the first one includes a brief explanation about the heraldry and most important families of Dante’s time; in the second part each student make a graphic elaboration, using drawing materials, of the coat of arms of his/her family.


Theater – The Hearty Lunch

A different way to know more about Dante and Medieval Florence. Students will attend at a theater play titled Il pranzo abbondante (The Hearty Hunch), written and directed, for Dante’s House, by Stefano Massini, a famous producer and stage director. One room of the museum magically became a medieval kitchen, as backdrop of the show set in Dante’s Florence.
